Reading Glasses on Book

Digital Storytelling Module

Module Reflection 2

Creating an online book using Book Creator was a really interesting and meaningful experience. From the start, we made sure to divide the work in a way that played to both of our strengths. I focused mainly on writing and editing the story text, while my partner took the lead on finding and designing visuals using ChatGPT. We both worked together when it came to using Book Creator to put everything together, making sure the layout and pacing was right. Through this project, I learned that good collaboration and good communication is critical when working together.

One challenge we faced was making sure our ideas stayed consistent. Since we were working separately on parts of the project, sometimes our vision for the story drifted slightly. To fix this, we set aside specific times to meet and review each other’s work. Talking through our ideas and being open to feedback really helped us stay on the same page. It also taught me that patience and flexibility are key when working with a partner. Adding the voiceovers was also a challenge because we needed to adjust our intonation to bring the story to life. It took several attempts before we were satisfied with the final result. Lastly, because we used ChatGPT to generate our images, some turned out inconsistent, so we had to be very careful and precise with how we wrote our prompts and this took a lot of time and our attempts ran out.

Throughout the creation process, we used several digital tools that made a huge difference. We used ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas and help us find the right images for our story. ChatGPT was incredibly helpful for designing visuals that matched the mood we wanted, and of course, Book Creator was where everything came together. We wanted our story to feel exciting but also meaningful, and I think the way we chose the images, sounds, and even the page transitions really supported that feeling. One technical challenge we ran into was formatting the images correctly in Book Creator—sometimes they wouldn’t line up the way we imagined because of the orientations of the image. We solved this by experimenting with the images so they fit better when uploaded.

The most meaningful part of the project for me was creating the story mountain and storyboard. It really helped us plan out the journey we wanted our readers to experience, and it made writing the actual pages much easier. I also found the peer feedback very valuable—it was great to see how others responded to our work and to get ideas for making it even better.

Overall, this project had a big impact on how I think about teaching language in the future. It showed me how powerful digital storytelling can be in making language learning more engaging and creative. In the future, I hope to use tools like Book Creator in my own classroom to inspire students to express themselves and collaborate meaningfully, such as by creating interactive books about cells that include videos, images, and other engaging elements.
